Welcome to the Evidence-Based Care section of our website.  We've included information on creating a birth plan, where to have your baby, natural labor support, and more.  Birth Matters Virginia is a consumer non-profit dedicated to providing scientifically supported information on maternity care.  The foundation of good maternity care must and should be practices that reflect safety and effectiveness for the laboring mother and newborn.  For more information on the definition of “Evidence-Based Maternity Care” click here (a report published by Childbirth Connection, the Reforming States Group, and the Milbank Group).  Also, check out a recent Consumer Reports article on the current maternity care system.

Throughout this section you will find thought-provoking articles and appropriate links to additional resources and studies.  Birth Matters Virginia is committed to our mission of improving the culture of birth in Virginia by promoting an evidence-based model of maternity care and supporting care providers who practice mother friendly care.  Our vision is to see pregnant women embraced by their communities, encouraged to trust the journey, discovering their strength and the transformational power of birth.  We hope that this section will help you in your own personal journey.
